With the past few months of Obama for your mama mania, I thought it may be interesting to talk about your beliefs, if you know them, and how do your beliefs sway how you vote?
I generally vote party line because my beliefs for the majority line up with one party. Unfortunately my party has drifted from it’s core beliefs in the past 8 years so I left the party. However I know many people don’t vote party line and generally vote to their feelings or how the politician presents themselves. I find it to be a slippery slope to vote on speech writers words and not on substance.
Sadly I think if you ask most Americans, they don’t know what their beliefs are or how they line up with each candidate. No doubt Obama is the sexy choice, he is amazingly charismatic and from what my wife tells me, he is handsome. But before you go throwing our undies on stage at the next debate maybe we should find out how your beliefs line up with him. If they line up, go ahead and anoint him, but if they don’t, maybe you should take a longer look at the choices, or lack of choices.
I would suggest asking yourself three questions. The first of which is the most important.
If you don’t know how to start just ask yourself the first question, What role should the federal government serve in your life? The answer to this question will point you a direction towards a party because each party has completely opposite views on this answer.
Once you figured out what you believe, do some research. Check out what each party believes. One you do that, check out votesmart.org and find out what the candidates really believe. It’s a lot more productive to see how they have voted in the past and not how they say they will vote in the future.
I say all of this urge you to educate yourself and not blindly or overemotionally choose the next candidate
